Are you suffering from varicocele and the ache of swollen testicle veins? Do you have infertility or testicular atrophy? Are you embarrassed of the swollen mass of veins in your scrotum? Well, stay with me and I will tell you how I treated my varicocele at home, without risky surgery.

I was about 19 years old when I noticed that something was really wrong. I had an odd swollen mass in my scrotum. I knew I had it for a long time, but had paid no attention to it. But, by this time, I had started experiencing aching and pain. I went online and searched and search, and eventually found the right key word “worms in scrotum”. Turned out the condition was called varicocele, it was the leading cause of male infertility, and there was no cure other than surgery (which is nonsense, firstly, because surgery is not a cure, and secondly, because you have options other than surgery for treatment).

So, I figured something was wrong, so I went to my family doctor. After examining the large mass of swollen veins (about the size of a golf ball!) she said “Well, it’s not the biggest varicocele that I’ve ever seen.” Obviously this made nothing better… I said, “Well, how do I treat it?” She said there is no treatment other than surgery. She made me a referral to a urologist/surgeon and sent me on my way!

I had my appointment with the urologist about 1 month later, and the pain had been increasing!

Urologist: “Well, yes, it’s a varicocele. You have back pain, that’s associated with varicocele.”
I asked “How do I treat it?”
Urologist: “There is no treatment. You either wait and see what happens or you must have surgery.”
Me: “Well then, let’s have surgery. Is it covered by my insurance?”
Urologist: “Well, I wouldn’t recommend surgery, because there is a chance that you might lose your testicle.”

I pretty much just ran away from there. But, unlike many men, I was very fortunate to run into a good urologist that pushed me away from high risk surgery.

I was well-versed in health and fitness myself, so I took it upon myself to treat my varicocele. I researched for months online, and tried every single tip and treatment that was recommended. To my surprise, I slowly started finding some treatments that helped alleviate my pain.

Many years have passed now, and I have now completely reversed my varicocele, without surgery. What did it take? Well, I realized that pornography, excessive masturbation, sitting, poor posture (which was the “back pain” that is associated varicocele), lack of hip mobility, diet, bowel and digestive health, underwear type, and many other risk factors had been the underlying cause of my varicocele.

Lessons: Varicocele is not a simple disorder of genetically faulty vein valves. There are many lifestyle risk factors for varicocele. Surgery is not a cure, because it simply cuts out the swollen veins, and does not treat the root cause. This is why many times, surgery does not improve fertility in 88% of men who undergo the procedure, and varicocele re-develops post-surgery. Surgery treats varicocele as if it is a genetic disorder, and that there are zero underlying lifestyle/nurture causes.

More lessons: These days, we have more and more access to high quality online resources. We should take more and more responsibility for our health and not always opt for quick-fixes. Sure, it seems that surgery is a good and easy solution, but, I’ve had countless men complain about developing permanent post operative pain and discomfort, reports of hydrocele, persistent recurrent varicocele, testicular damage, damage to surrounding veins, etc. The list goes on and on!

In conclusion, don’t feel hopeless and debilitated because of varicocele. There is a lot that you can do.
